Home is land near the old Brickworks in Sanquhar where, from fairly humble beginnings, Clark’s Little Ark, with Alison and Ian Shankly’s hands on the tiller, has become an established attraction in the community, so much so, it has earned a special award.
It’s evolution came on the back of a personal family tragedy when Alison and Ian lost their young son Clark, a lovely lad who liked being around happy smiling people.
It was not lost on Alison and Ian that their animals made people smile and happy. They found that so rewarding they decided to create Clark’s Little Ark.

Their efforts have been rewarded with an increasing collection of animals helped along by a posse of volunteers who have taken Clark’s Little Ark to their hearts.
The Friends give up their time to raise funds, organize open days and help with the all round management as well as perform hands on tasks with the animals, for which Alison and Ian are extremely grateful.
The only entry fee for Clark’s Little Ark is a smile with visitors free to wander down the track and mingle with the animals.
But it is important that people adhere to all the advice and information on the signs and notices at the entrance, for their own safety and that of the animals.
